Chestnut Dialer


Chestnut Dialer has been made into a debian package, by merlwiz79.

Description:
Locations:
  1. XFCE Menu -->Network --> Chestnut Dialer
  2. XFCE 4 mintConfig --> Hardware --> Chestnut Dialer
Before using Chestnut Dialer:
  1. XFCE Menu --> System --> Users and Groups. unlock and select your user name. Click Properties and Select the User Privileges tab. Then enable Connect to internet using modem. Logout to allow the setting to take affect.
  2. Disable all Ethernet and Wireless Adapters from Network, located in XFCE 4 mintConfig --> Networking --> Network 
  3. Locate the device the modem is on. Example /dev/modem
Setting up Chestnut Dialer:
  1. In Chestnut Dialer select AccountsConf and Click New.
  2. Add the Phone Number to dial and then the Prefix if any is needed. Click Default Button to change the Prefix. 
  3. Click Authentication Tab to add the User Name and Password if needed.
  4. Click Device Tab to make sure the correct Dial Device is set. To change any settings click Default first. 
  5. Click PPP Tab to change Call-back Phone Number, PPP Options, Run Program After Connect/Disconnect, MTU, and MRU.
  6. Click IP Address/DNS Tabs if these settings need to be changed.
  7. Click OK when all the settings are configured for dialing a connection.
  8. To Dial select Dial and click on the profile to use to dial.
Config:
Options:
  • Options has the settings for Interface, Key Bindings, Confirmations, Behaviour, and External Programs.
  • For External Programs set Browser to
    xfbrowser4 %s
   Default Account:
  • This changes all the default settings these can be left alone and changed in the Dial Account.
View Connection Log:
  • This will show all the information during the connection.
  • This will have any errors that may have occurred during the Dialing process.
Removing:
  1. Open Terminal and execute this command.
    sudo aptitude purge chestnut-dialer chestnut-dialer-gtk2
  2. Answer Y when asks Do you want to continue? [Y/n/?]
